Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet (SLU) is a sector university under the Swedish Ministry of Rural Affairs. The SLU mission is to develop the understanding and sustainable use and management of biological natural resources. This is achieved by research, education and environmental monitoring and assessment, in collaboration with the surrounding community. SLU’s sectors encompass agriculture, veterinary medicine, natural resources and the environment as well as rural development and landscape architecture. SLU’S activities are characterized by a strong link between education and research of high international standards and close collaboration with sectors concerned. SLU has also national responsibility for several unique vocational educational programs that meet considerable needs within the sectors concerned, and pursues problem-oriented research, development and communication activities governed by the needs of its sectors. SLU has 2800 fulltime employees, 3800 undergraduate students and 650 PhD students.
Role in the project
SLU will participate with colleagues from the research unit Cropping Systems Ecology (CSE), of the Department of Biosystems and Technology, and contribute in work packages 3, 5 and 6. SLU will lead tasks 3.3 and 5.2, and coordinate a farmers’ network for on-farm trials of agronomic innovations (Task 5.2). SLU’s experience in facilitating communication and collaboration between the university and surrounding society will be a valuable asset for contributions in the multiple stakeholder interactions and multi-actor approach within SolACE.
