The Université catholique de Louvain, founded in 1425, is a large institution dedicated to teaching, research and services. It embraces most scientific disciplines in Art and Humanities, Sciences and Technology and Medical Sciences. The two research teams involved in SolACE belong to the Earth and Life Institute (ELI, Science and Technology) and provide expertise on the genetic and functional analysis of root system architecture and on the functional, molecular analysis and physiology of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF).
Role in the project
UCLouvain will (i) carry out the dynamic phenotypic characterisation of the root system growth and architecture of the two wheat panels (Task 2.1) using a high throughput root phenotyping platform, and conduct the meta-analysis of root architecture data from different platforms; (ii) determine root colonization by AMF of 200 genotypes of wheat and further select to most responsive genotypes (Task 2.1); (iii) evaluate the diversity of rhizosphere AMF communities by NGS from potato samples in field sites under contrasting N and P conditions and potato genotypes (Task 2.3) to identify AMF microbiome signature as a function of genotype and type of limitation (Task 2.3); (iv) contribute to the development of a whole plant FSPM of wheat (Task 2.5), (v) develop microbial inoculants formulations and technologies based on the co-entrapment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Trichoderma sp. and bacteria (Task 3.1); (vi) participate in the field trialling on potato and in particular in the traceability of the AMF inoculants and analysis of the soil and plant-microbiome to determine AMF abundance and diversity (Task 3.2); (vii) help in the evaluation and selection of the most promising application practices in collaboration with stakeholders (Task 3.3). As leader of work package 2, UCLouvain will coordinate all work package 2 activities, reporting, milestones and deliverables.
