European Conservation Agriculture Federation (ECAF)

ECAF was constituted in Brussels on 14 January 1999, as a non-profit association, subject to Belgium law. It was conceived to encourage any issue focused on the conservation of agrarian soil and its biodiversity in the context of a sustainable agriculture. ECAF is not involved in any commercial product, equipment and/or trademark.
ECAF brings together 19 national associations that promote among Europe's farmers the "best practices" of soil management, worldwide known as the principles of conservation agriculture. With member associations in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom, ECAF covers the majority of the European Union's cropped farmland. The aims of ECAF are (i) to provide and disseminate information among farmers, agricultural technicians and advisors as well as society in general; (ii) to promote research, development and dissemination of any aspects related to the principles conservation agriculture and (iii) to develop all kinds of activities and programs addressed to the achievement of the previous aims. ECAF's board is composed of designated members of recognized and legally established National Associations promoting the principles of conservation agriculture.

Role in the project

The role of ECAF in this project is mainly to provide its long-lasting expertise as European stakeholder where sustainable agriculture in general, and the promotion of the principles of conservation agriculture, in specific, is concerned. Furthermore, ECAF will contribute to the dissemination of the project aims and outcomes both at national and European level. ECAF will organize the final SolACE stakeholders’ event.
